If you're ever in South-Central Pennsylvania on Interstate-83 between York and Harrisburg, take the Yocumtown Exit and treat yourself to a Maple Glazed Donut. You'll be happy you did.

Maple Glazed Peanut Topped Donut

Up until my first visit to Maple Donuts in 2007, I was loyal only to Krispy Kremes. The Maple Glazed donut itself is pretty close to perfect, befitting of donut texture, not too dough-y, not too cake-y, just right. But the glaze, oh baby, the glaze. It's a buttery maple glaze, sprinkled with peanuts if you want, drizzled with caramel if you dare. They have all sorts of donuts, too, if you aren't inclined to eat maple, though I think you should at least give it a try. Kruellers, Sour Cream, Peanut Butter topped, Toasted Coconut, Jelly-filled, and on and on. "13 delicious donuts in every doz."

They like to tell you that they specialize in "holes". I'd have to agree.

We usually get a baker's dozen of assorted Maple Glazed donuts and make ourselves sick on the way home. Yesterday, we were hungry for lunch, so we got breakfast croissants sandwiches, too. They hit the spot.

My favorite part of our excursion yesterday was when the Earthy Cowboy noticed a sign at the donut counter advertising 5 gallon buckets for $1 each. They receive their donut icing in them, so the buckets are intended to hold a lot of weight. He picked out 5 good ones, the lady brought out 5 fitting lids and off we went with our icing buckets which will be used for weeding and harvesting in the high tunnel. That man of mine is ever so observant and resourceful. I like him.

And if you're in a hurry, they have a drive-thru window! If it's 2:30am, don't worry - they're open 24 hours!

But you should still drive safely...
